CM Punk's Cult

I don't know if "cult" is the correct term to use, but it's the best I could think of to describe Punk's new storyline. It started with Punk weaning Festus off the :quote: drugs :quote: he was on and turning him into a member of his Straight Edge Society, re-naming him Luke Gallows. This past week, we saw Punk take a plant fan out of the crowd and convince the fan that he (Punk) was his (the fan's) savior. Punk then shaved the fan's (god awful) hair to initiate him into the Straight Edge Society as well. And this storyline will continue next week.

I think we can all assume that this will continue until a new superstar (probably that guy from ROH that just signed, whose name I forget) joins him. But the question is whether that person will join the group or if he'll feud with Punk. Which would be the better way to introduce the character?

I am all for the Straight Edge Society getting at least a few more members. I highly doubt that Bryan Danielson will get involved in the storyline at all. He's good on the microphone, but not solid enough to be put against Punk from the get-go. Danielson will probably be better off in ECW for a few months upon debuting.

Cult is the term we been using in my house. It kinda reminds me of the days of Rights to Censor.I think it's cause of the brain washing aspect. Never the less The Straight Edge Society is fresh I really like it. This could lead off to so many different directions. Ultimately a group faction would be awesome It's been so long since we have had a decent faction in the WWE.

It would be great if the straight edge society becomes a faction that shakes up SD! totally and hosts to be a major threat to other superstars, Forcing superstars to group together in order to take them on. This also makes great warfare story lines to lead up to P.P.V's such as Survivor Series for example.

It would be good if they were strong enough to get all the titles. Put the World Title on Punk, the IC Title on Luke, have the Hart Foundation join putting the Tag Titles on Tyson and DH, and the Diva title on Nataylia. Then, since the unified Tag Champs can go to any brand, you can bend the Freebird rule and have Punk move his faction to Raw whenever he wanted. It'd be awesome.

I caught up with SD! highlights moments after my above post. The segment with the guy from the crowed was lame.

"SES" Straight Edge Society, taking all the titles would make perfect sense to the concept of the group. The straight edge lifestyle enables them to focus on only victory and gold.

Yeah, it really was. But you cannot expect something great from a worthless plant. It should pick up when the actual wrestler is the plant and not some acting fan.

The Vampire is back
Is it me, or is Punk modelling himself on Jesus? It looks that way.

I like this storyline, because it's bringing back the "I'm Straight Edge, means I'm better than you" Punk of old, however, what I don't like is the fact that neither Punk or Gallows are getting pushed Singally, as well as a unit.

It is religious based, which is odd since WWE is trying to be all PG. The way Punk has grown his beard out and calls himself a savior doesn't exactly seem like something parents would want their kids to see. I mean, I love it, but I'm a grown folk.

He is definitely a preacher that's for sure.

I wish these people he "saved"would become part of his cult and join his faction. Instead of just doing the same stint every week and it going nowhere, he could have them join and start fueding with pretty much everyone who wasn't straight edge.

My question regards how they'll disband this faction - a drug taking drunk wrestler? Sounds good but not very PG...which is also good!

Well, it depends on how big the faction gets. They could have someone else join Punk (that ROH guy?) and follow him for a while, only to have that guy turn on Punk by saying he brainwashed his SES members worse than any drug addiction could. Turn it on Punk saying he's the addiction. Then everyone can leave the group or something.

Or they can introduce a smack dealing pimp as a character, which I think would be v entertaining.

Cannot be the only person wondering this, but why is it that Punk forces all his disciples to shave their heads to initiate them into the Straight Edge Society, when he himself has long hair and a beard second only to Mike Knox? I've read rumors of a Hair vs Mask match between Punk and Mysterio at WM. I hope that isn't the case.

Because Punk has the look of Jesus. He is the "savior" and the leader. He is cleansing them by shaving their heads. Much like it is to be Baptiste.

Also, beards are fucking rad.

They had to be "cleansed" so they have their heads shave and then it grows back. Punks been straight-edge he doesnt need to be cleansed.

that makes more sense

^ Exactly.

I like it because of the reaction it gets. I like angles that really get to the core of human reaction. Something like this, that touches such a deep nerve in so many people is what I enjoy about wrestling, it's what makes wrestling the best form of entertainment in the world when you have the fans in the palm of your hand baying for your blood and desperate to want to lynch you, particularly when what you're actually saying is so absolutely true that it's unpalatable.

It has the potential to allow people to question their own thoughts and opinions on things, things like that don't come along very often in a way that many of the fans of wrestling would ever experience and to have them then have to ponder those things and why they're deciding to react the way they are can only be a good thing.
